Mason played for the NBA’s New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets, New York knicks, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Miami Heat between 1988-2003. He passed after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure and succumbed to his condition at the age of 48.

Freel made his MLB debut for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2001. After several injuries, he eventually retired. He passed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and his family donated his brain tissue to Boston University to research chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
