Evangeline Lilly: An Organic Cure-All for Depression?
Actress Evangeline Lilly (Lost; The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) recently talked candidly with Digital Spy about her struggle with depression. But in the interview, Lilly said her organic diet cured her of depression.
"Going from eating whatever to eating primarily organic food, I was astounded what a difference that made. After about a year or two years, I started to feel something physically lift out of my brain, and I believe it was all the chemicals I was probably ingesting [before]," she said.
It's true that experts recommend a balanced diet to help manage depression, and research suggests that dark chocolate, vitamin B12 and folate, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein may help improve symptoms of depression. However, there's no scientific evidence that a wholly organic diet cures depression. This method may have helped Lilly, but most people cannot eat their way out of mental illness.
