No, it's not Throwback Thursday, but this blast-from-the-past celeb health claim is too juicy to skip! One of Tom Cruise's worst health rants occurred in 2005 when he criticized actress Brooke Shields' use of anti-depressants for postpartum depression. Cruise suggested that anti-depressants were ineffective in treating depression, and claimed that vitamins and exercise alone could cure it.
Well, Shields and the medical community didn't take too kindly to Cruise's claims. She fired back with an op-ed of her own, and the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) and an editor from the Journal of Clinical Investigation responded to Cruise's claims that psychiatry is a pseudo-science and chemical imbalances don't exist.
He eventually apologized to Shields, and the world kind of forgave him. (Then he made the movie Knight and Day, and we all hated him again.)
